Background

The Problem

The mill contractor needed a screw conveyor with customizable options to replace an existing conveyor. The screw conveyor can move a variety of materials, including meal, grain, pellets, or textured feed. APEC’s screw conveyor has customization capabilities to fit any need.

The Solution

The diameter of the screw can be customized up to 18” in diameter. Both the screw flighting and the trough can be manufactured from mild or stainless steel, with an additional AR plate option that is a harder mild steel choice to hold up against abrasive materials. Different flighting pitches are available, up to the recommended full pitch. The welds used to attach the flighting to the screw shaft can be customized. APEC offers stitch welds, continuous welds, and CEMA II or CEMA IV welds. Screw conveyors can be built horizontal or vertical and can be powder coated in a variety of colors. Inlet and outlet flange sizes can be customized to ensure sections integrate properly, as well as any upstream or downstream equipment.

Capacities

The capacity of the screw conveyor depends on aspects such as material density, screw size and pitch, and motor RPM. For this specific customer, the different sizes of screw conveyors they have can move between 15 and 150 tons per hour at 45 RPM.
